Holy smokes - It's been almost 6 months since I've done an update up here. It's Time. We spent six months in Florida this time. We arrived on October 15, 2025 and left on April 20, 2026. We were gonna leave on April 15, 2026 but each of us was waiting for a prescription that couldn't be refilled until the 20th! Yeah, letvs all get older.
The RV park we stayed in for the entire time we were there is called Sherwood Forest RV Resort. It's in Palm Harbor, FL and is about 30 miles north of Tampa. We stayed there last year (Winter 2024 into 2025) for about four months, too. This place is incredible. I can't say enough good about it. Over the last 2 1/2 years we've been on the road full-time, we've probably stayed in, what? Maybe 50 different parks. Although we've never stayed in them as long as Sherwood Forest, nothing comes close to this place. People are genuinely friendly. They really, really want us to be involved. They want newcomers to be involved. They have activities GALORE! We didn't deal ourselves in awful lot the previous year, but we got involved in nearly everything this year. They have golf day on Monday. They have bowling day on Thursday. They have Euchre card game on Wednesday nights. They have Sequence Card games on Wednesday afternoon (we hadn't heard of them either, but REALLY liked both!). They have Bingo on Thursday. They had a phenomenal Christmas dinner for everyone in the park and about 50 people brought stuff and joined in with absolute joy. Same thing for Thanksgiving. Same thing for New Year's. There's a morning meeting every Tuesday morning at 9 o'clock and nearly everyone shows up to see how the Golf day went the bowling day, the cornhole tournament, bowling day, men's day out. It goes on and on. Every other Tuesday is Mens day out to a local restaurant. I have availed myself nearly every outing. Every other Wednesday is women's day out. Gloria availed herself nearly every one of them. They have trivia night once a month (not before WE arrived -- I run it!), they have to Karaoke night once a month (not before WE arrived -- we run it!). Twice a month after the Tuesday morning meeting, they have tech tips with Michael (not before WE arrived -- I run it!) We had a boating outing with about 30 of us to celebrate one fellow's birthday. We had a theater night out that they've apparently done for a decade or more, once per season for a local play, and about 30 of us went to that. Every other Monday morning is cornhole day. Every Friday at 4 o'clock is Ring the Bell at the Gazebo, where about 30 or 40 people show up and have snacks, drinks, and great involvement and chatter. Two fellows in the park do a regular local music gig, and they performed for us about once per month. It's incredible. One lady is responsible for the calendar, and it's a huge chore as you can imagine. Her husband runs the Bingo. I do karaoke and trivia. Carolyn coordinates all the Card games. Carol is the cheerleader for ALL events, and makes sure all of them have enough games for everyone to play. Dan coordinates Mens Day Out. Rich is in charge of bowling. Gloria now is a big contributor the Tuesday afternoon ladies crafting activities, and they've done some beautiful and really fun things! Jerry hosts archery day, and I believe that was brand new this year. He had a final competition day this year in early April and Joe and I went down to the final two arrows. It was pretty fun, but Joe prevailed! I'll stop now. Needless to say, one can be involved in at least one significant activity for 2 to 3 hours minimum every single day. And people DO. We had so much fun, and can't wait to get back in late October or early November, 2026. We did a few things on our own too, including a couple of dolphin boat outings, Jennifer, our daughter and her son Aiden, our grandson, came down to visit for a week right after Christmas, and we did a bunch of things with them. We went to the zoo in Tampa, we browsed neighborhood Christmas lights, we did some local Karaoke bar hops near Palm Harbor, and just generally relaxed, enjoyed ourselves, our tremendously long list of new friends, and of course the dogs. As the season progressed on, folks started leaving to go back to their more northerly homes around mid-March, and a reasonably sad-to-us procession of others continued to join that list. By the time we left on April 20, probably at least half of our new friends had departed for this season. Everyone will be back in October and November. The park has about 100 spaces, and probably 80 of those are owned permanently, many of them with folks who have been coming to this park annually for the seasonal months for over 20 years. A few folks live in the park year-around, but that must get pretty lonely because probably less than a half dozen who do that. We eventually left on April 20 of this year, starting to make our slow trek toward the Pacific Northwest. We plan to spend about five weeks in the Seattle area starting on June 13 this year and eventually departing again on July 17. Our route from that point will be to stop in Sturgis, South Dakota again for the motorcycle rally from around August 1 to August 10, and then slowly again make our way to Palm Harbor, Florida, and our new dear friends at Sherwood Forest RV Resort. We don't know when we'll arrive there, but probably around the middle of October to the end of November. It'll depend on the hurricane weather forecast! As of today's date of May 23, 2026, we've made seven stops in route from Florida to Washington. Each trek we keep to about 275 miles, and stay at a KOA park typically for about five days. We've found that we really like KOA's, because they ALWAYS have a dog park, they're clean and nice, friendly staff, and are usually near to an Interstate highway and medium-to-larger population areas with likely activities. Or at least activities we might explore according to Google or ChatGPT! Please see the pictures and videos pages for stuff we've been doing, and I'll sign off for now, hoping to see many recipients on this mailing list during our five days day near Seattle, Washington this summer! |
